THE DISTANCE BETWEEN YOU AND ME
This project found its genesis when my mother returned from a visit to a dying friend and was recounting how her friend was having 'flashbacks' of her life - and it triggered the idea of doing a project that dealt with death and mortality. I worked on the series for about a year before putting it aside, mainly because the emotional weight of the work felt too difficult for me to deal with at the time. I revisited it when my brother was diagnosed with lymphoma - the distance that I had felt compelled to create within the imagery became a metaphor for the distance I felt between myself and my brother; the distance between life and death.
